Hello - we've started a journey...
Summary?
Well, we're going from Peking to Paris in a very, very old, vintage Vauxhall. It's very old and we don't know what will happen. We hope we will make it. We really do. Did we mention it's very, very old?
Why Vintage Green Power? Michael Power (right) and his co-driver, Jonathan Green (left), will drive Michael's 1923 Vauxhall 30-98 in this momentous event, and raise vital funds for Samaritans. You can make a donation and sponsor us
here:
On May 27th 2007 up to 130 historic & classic cars were flagged out of Tianaman Square, Peking to participate in a celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the first ever trans-continental motor-marathon. The Peking to Paris Motor Challenge 2007 will take it's participants through China, the Gobi Desert, Outer Mongolia, Russia and finally, over a month later, into Europe. The culmination of the event being a gala prize giving at la Grand Hotel in Paris, France on 30th June 2007.
The Other Important Bit
We are posting a
blog via satellite phone as we go. That means this site will be updated throughout the trip. That means we'll be able to entertain you and give you the opportunity to donate some more money as well. Read more on the preparations and shipping process
here.
We hope this will work. We now know what a satellite phone is and have found the 'on' button. It might just work. Then again, it may not.
The Serious Stuff
You can read more about the car and the preparations for the rally
